volunteer involvement opportunities
From financial contributions to individual and group volunteering, there are many different ways
to support our programs.
As a rule, due to space limitations, The Other Place
typically cannot accept donations of furniture or clothing. Please call, though, if
you have such items for donation. We may be able to take them on a periodic
basis or refer you to another appropriate agency.
Current Opportunities...We need your help!
- Filing Assistance: The Other Place needs a mature,
reliable volunteer to assist with filing at our shelter for a couple of
hours per week. Days/times are very flexible, but must be during
business hours, 9 a.m.-5 p.m. Mon.-Fri. Help our case managers spend
their time with clients, instead of in the file room.
- Lunch Distribution: The Other
Place is seeking dependable volunteers to set up and serve lunch to our
shelter clients, followed by a light clean-up. We currently need help on
selected weekdays from approximately 10:45 a.m. to 12 noon.
- Mail Distribution: The Other Place needs volunteers to
help distribute mail to our daytime shelter clients. Volunteer
shifts are available on weekday mornings and afternoons.
- Voice Mail Transcription: The Other Place needs reliable
volunteers willing to work at least once per week to transcribe voice
mail messages for shelter clients. Clients receive messages on TOP's
special voice mail line from prospective employers, other
service-providers, etc. Volunteers help by transferring recorded
messages onto paper for delivery to the clients.
- Mail Cart Organization: The Other Place is seeking volunteers
for a 2 to 3-hour block of time on weekdays to help organize the mail
cart.
